jQuery and Advanced Java Script Workshop

Workshop on “jQuery and Advanced JavaScript” (Hands-On Session) was conducted by the Department of Computer Science & Engineering from 8th to 12th August 2016 (duration of 5 days). The organizers of the session are Dr. Umadevi V (Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, BMSCE), Selva Kumar S (Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, BMSCE) and Rahul Kumar, 3rd year student, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, BMSCE). Online Registration Link was provided to register for the workshop, out of 77 responses we had short listed to 40 students based on the questions (Interest and Basic knowledge) asked in the registration. A total of 36 students participated in this event from various departments such as Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication, Electrical Engineering and one student from NMIT, Bangalore. Dr. Umadevi V (Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, BMSCE), Selva Kumar S (Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, BMSCE) and Rahul Kumar, 3rd year student, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, BMSCE).

The workshop was conducted with the aim of helping students learn the most widely used JavaScript library to build professional websites. It helped students to develop website which can be used across different web browsers.

On the first day of the session the following topics were covered:
Introduction to jQuery, JS Function Revision, JS Function Advance, jQuery Library and basic selectors. Also in between the session a hands on programs were given to students for practicing purpose. At the end of the day1 session, assignment questions were given to evaluate the understanding capabilities of the students.

On the second day of the session started with discussion on Assignment given in the day1 session and followed by the following topics, jQuery Events and jQuery Traversing and Searching Techniques with practice program in between of the session. At the end of the session students were given assignment question based on the topic covered in the day 2.

On the third day of the session discussed the question given as an assignment and followed by jQuery Animation and jQuery DOM Manipulation with sample program were given to get an exposure of the jQuery effects in developing web pages. Students were asked to complete the interesting assignment on jQuery Animation (Firework animation).

On the Fourth day of the session began with the introduction to JSON, sample programs were demonstrated to create JSON and practice programs were given to explore the features of JSON and session ended with the set of assignment questions on JSON.

On the Fifth day of the session started with discussion of the assignment questions and then jQuery AJAX calls were introduced and sample programs were given to practice it. Finally interesting assignments were given to student on jQuery AJAX.

Online Feedback was taken from students which was positive and comments from students suggested that they had very good learning experience by attending this workshop.
