The Technical Writing and Hands on LaTeX Workshop was organized by BMSCE IEEE, supported by the IEEE SSIT, Bangalore Chapter on the 19th of September, 2015.
As college students, technical writing has become a vital skill that each one of us requires to move forward. To teach students about efficient and effective technical paper writing , BMSCE IEEE with the support of IEEE SSIT Bangalore Chapter organized a workshop on technical writing during BMS College of Engineering’s Annual Technical Symposium, PhaseShift 2015.
The participants of this workshop included students from various colleges over Bangalore as well as from all over Karnataka.
The workshop was started off by Dr. T Srinivas, who first spoke on the importance of good technical writing. He elaborated on the many techniques used to write a technical paper, and mentioned the common mistakes made by the students in the same. The participants were taught from the fundamentals to the dos and don’ts to provide a clear understanding of the topic.
After a short break for High Tea, Mr. Dhanu Pattanashetti from IEEE India Council gave an interactive webinar on IEEE and on the benefits of technical writing. The webinar was followed by a session on LaTex by Mr. Javed.
Mr. Javed took center stage and provided an interactive session to the audience using LaTeX, a handy tool that can be used to create technical documents. Each participant, on connecting to an online server, was able to use LaTeX and learn about the various advantages of the same. As the session was wholly interactive, the audience was able to follow each step in real time and clarify any ambiguities immediately.
This workshop helped broaden the capabilities of the attendees by enabling them to write technical papers using all the tips and advice discussed with them.
